Golfing in Summit County

Although Summit County is more often considered for it’s steep and snowy slopes, the multiple golf courses offering magnificent views in a classic mountain setting are not to be overlooked. Golfers looking for a relaxing day on the links will be able to find a course that suits them while those looking for a challenge will certainly find it along with panoramic views, wildlife and much more.

The Copper Creek Golf Course is the highest championship golf course in North America, it’s summit reaching 9,712 feet. Designed by course architects Pete and Perry Dye, the 70 par, 18-hole course is a mix of links and mountain style holes and is perfect for beginners while still providing a great test for more seasoned golfers. The front nine meanders through natural alpine terrain, along lakes and streams, and the back nine cuts through the remains of a 19th century mining town, adding a bit of history to your game. Just like everywhere in Summit County, Copper Creek Golf Course has excellent views, overlooking the 10 Mile Range.

The Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks is often considered one of the top courses in the country and continuously named the best mountain course in Colorado. This challenging course features rolling fairways and immaculate greens surrounded by stands of pine and aspen, clear creeks, trout filled lakes, and of course snow capped peaks. The 72 par, 18-hole course is located in Silverthorne.

Breckenridge Golf Club has three championship nines; the Bear, the Beaver and the Elk and all three are designed by Jack Nicklaus. Playing at over 9,300 feet, each nine offers a true mountain golf experience with panoramic views of the snowcapped Rockies, dense wooded areas and native grassland. Wildlife on the course is not unusual – beaver, deer, elk and an occasional moose or bear are common reports on the courses. The course is appropriate for all skill levels and each set of tees plays to a par 72.

Rated as one of the Best Golf Resorts in America by both Golf Magazine and Golf Digest, Keystone Golf offers two amazing courses and thirty-six championship holes. These courses alone have made Keystone of the nation’s most respected golf resorts. Tee off at the edge of the world, surrounded by panoramic views of the Colorado Rockies.

Keystone Ranch will take your game to a higher level, winding through lodgepole pines and across a nine-acre lake. This par-72 course, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., follows the links-style on the front nine while the back nine represents a traditional mountain valley layout with slight elevation changes and many bunkers.

The par-71 River Course is oriented around the Snake River and through a pine forest with higher elevation changes, bunkers, water hazards and multiple tees to challenge golfers of all abilities. The scenic course offers a 194 foot elevation drop at the 16th hole and spectacular views of Lake Dillon on the 18th hole. Wildlife often make appearances on this course as well.

The Vail Golf Club’s mountain-style, 18-hole course features unique fairways and a scenic layout that meanders through the White River National Forest. The perfect course to hone in on accuracy, the fairways are tree-lined and flatter but offer numerous bunkers as well as beaver ponds. Scenic views of the Gore Mountain range complement this excellent course.

Novice and pro golfers alike will be sure to hone their skills, learn a new course and enjoy the mountain setting no matter what course they choose!
