Keystone named Best Ski Resort For Families by USA Today!*

The River Run Estate is an absolutely exquisite, brand new home located in Dercum's Dash, Keystone’s premiere highest end development adjacent to the ski area, and just a few minutes walk down a private path to the River Run Gondola and Ski Village! This stunning new home truly has it all, with the finest mountain contemporary finishes, fantastic views, seven bedrooms, a gaming room to die for, a bright quiet room to relax (think Starbucks), 10 new large screen TVs, ample space and of course, a location that simply cannot be beat!

Upon entering the home on the main level you are immediately greeted by a Great Room with floor to ceiling rock fireplace, vaulted ceilings, hand scraped walnut floors, a bright open floor plan and a 75-inch TV for watching your favorite sporting event.  Off the main living room, you will find the gorgeous kitchen, which is truly a chef’s dream!  It features a 6 burner, gas Wolf stove, a Sub Zero refrigerator, Wolf oven with warming drawer, wine refrigerator, ample counter space and so much more. The adjacent dining room offers seating for 8 in addition to the breakfast bar with seating for 8.  Just off the living room is an outdoor living area with ample seating, an outdoor gas fireplace and the top of the line hot tub with the upgraded jet package that is sure to soothe and relax after a hard day of skiing.  In addition, off of the Great Room is a quiet Starbucks type of room, with ample couches and chairs to relax, have a cup of coffee and read emails.

If you are not watching the game on the 75-inch TV in the Great Room, downstairs is where the fun happens! On this level, you will find another living space offering a fireplace, 75-inch television, Xbox, PlayStation, pool table, wet bar, wine cellar and more! With plenty of seating and tons to do, this is sure to be the place where everyone hangs out!  And the downstairs doesn’t feel like downstairs as the slope of the land allows for windows to be above grade.

On the main level are two bedrooms. The first is the main master suite offering a king bed, a pull-out chair into a single bed, television, and access to the deck as well as an en-suite bathroom that offers a soaking tub, shower with a rain showerhead and dual sinks. The second is a large room that can be used as either a second bedroom or a quiet Starbucks like getaway room. It features two coaches that pull out into queen beds, table and chairs, and television.

Upstairs are two additional bedrooms, that both offer king sized beds, televisions, and en-suite bathrooms. Also on this level, you will find the loft featuring an additional seating area (a couch that converts to a queen bed) for the kids to be in close proximity to the Great Room and watch a 65-inch TV as you relax in the Great Room below.

In the lower level, you will find 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, and a half bathroom. The first bedroom offers a king sized bed, en-suite bath, and television. The second bedroom offers a king sized bed, television and en-suite, Jack and Jill style bathroom that is shared with the bunk room. The bunk room offers bunk beds as well as a television.

Almost every major destination ski resort works hard to cater to families. Family ski trips provide outsized revenue streams to ski resorts and are often the main drivers of lift tickets, lodging, and lessons sales.

Every big resort, therefore, has plenty of amenities aimed directly at this dependable engine of the ski economy. Some resorts have built-in advantages, such as easy commutes from default airports, more beginner and intermediate terrain that's easily accessed, and advantageous resort layouts featuring short distances from lodging, parking, and skiing. And some ski resorts simply execute on the family front better than others.

Skiing with kids can be an exasperating affair. It's made easier, however, by ski resorts with thoughtful arrangements and measures that ease the burden on parents.

The crew at ZRankings, a ski trip booking site and thorough source for resort data, has skied every major ski resort in North America, often with kids in tow, and has taken copious notes on resorts' strengths and weaknesses. They've created this list, unique for USA TODAY Travel, by putting all of these factors together and distilling things down into a simple Family Score, which reveals what are, by our measure, the best ski resorts for families in North America.

Top 10 ski resorts for families

1. Keystone — 98.0

Keystone is one of many Vail Resorts properties that excel at making family trips easier. The parent company has developed a formula and emphasized amenities that make the task of schlepping kids around the mountain a little easier with gobs of ski-in, ski-out lodging and base villages that include all kinds of restaurants and kid-centric entertainment.

Keystone takes all of these things to another level. The ski resort has wrapped its brand around family ski trips with a gusto that is unmatched in the industry. It has even produced a trademarked brand around its commitment to families: Kidtopia. Keystone's unique amenities for kids include giant snow forts and playgrounds at the base, along with countless diversions for kids amongst the resort's terrain.

One of the more annoying tasks in any family ski trip is getting the kids from the car — or the condo or hotel — to the slopes. Mom and Dad are often carrying their own equipment, plus the kids' stuff, and, in some cases, the kids themselves. Prolonging this sweaty, awkward chore: Small children don't walk well in ski boots, so this parade from car/lodging to slopes can take a ridiculous amount of time.

Keystone eases the burden on parents here in two ways. First off, parking is close to the base and free (a major anomaly for a big Colorado resort) — but second, and most important: Keystone supplies parents with free gear wagons that are stocked at the parking lot and ubiquitous across the base village.

Parents need only to pile their own gear, their kiddos' gear, and even the kiddos themselves into the wagon and then partake in a leisurely walk through the village.

A big day on the mountain at Keystone is cinched up neatly for kids with a daily parade that goes from the ski school to the front of the village. It's replete with floats, flags, knickknacks for kids and free cookies for all at the end.

The dining options at Keystone are also designed around families. The headliner here is the Dinner Sleigh Ride, where diners ride horse-drawn sleighs about 20 minutes to a cabin on a high mountain plain that, inside, serves up chow befitting the scene: steaks, chicken, salmon, and beef hot dogs for kids. Many dinners at this historic cabin are punctuated by the singing of folk and cowboy tunes by a guitar-wielding “ranch hand.”

Other good options include the Keystone Ranch, where top-shelf steaks and chops are served. If parents can score a babysitter, or if the kids happen to be discerning diners, a dinner trip to the Ski Tip Lodge, one of the best fine-dining options in all of skiing, might be in order.

Keystone is also blessed with natural properties that make for superior family experiences on the mountain: long and wide intermediate runs that descend most of Keystone's 2,718-foot vertical in one swoop. Families don't need to hopscotch around the mountain here to find terrain that works for them.

My large family and I spent Thanksgiving Week in this beautiful home. The pictures and tour does not give it justice. It's spectacular! Large rooms, modern appeal, excellent layout!
Couple of improvements, WiFi never really worked- very weak signal. The TV's (DirectTV) did not work in all rooms. Why have 7 TV's if you can not use all of them? You can only use 3 TV's at a time. Direct TV did not work for the first 2 days( until someone came out to fix the satellite)
My Family and I have not seen each other for over 3 years- thanks for sharing your home with our family!

We were lucky enough to have their new, beautiful home for Labor Day weekend! The details the owners have put into this home rivals our multi-million dollar main residence! I never expected a rental to impress me the way this home did. From top end appliances (Wolf Range, Gas Grill, Hot Tub) to layout and design, the house is absolutely perfect! I loved their attention to detail! I was so impressed with the quality of the mattresses to the thoughtful detail of putting bunk beds and cool pull outs with king beds in the bedrooms! PERFECT vacation house!

If you are looking for a family-friendly vacation home this is the place. The home accommodated 3 families with room to spare. The house is finished out beautifully with high end state of the art mountain contemporary amenities. We loved that we could walk to Keystone Village and explore, as well as being able to walk over to the River Run gondola and enjoy a ride up the mountain. We can't wait to come back in the winter to enjoy this beautiful home while skiing. Everything is so conveniently located near the home, we enjoyed hiking, boating and ATV riding. What a wonderful relaxing Labor Day Weekend we had! Looking forward to our next trip Keystone at this gorgeous home.
