While mostly known for its dramatic mountain views, one of Colorado’s most popular attractions doesn’t have to do with vertical feet or chasing powder – it’s the states numerous natural hot springs. What better way to relax after a day of playing hard in the mountains. Although there are no natural hot springs located in Summit County, there are several that are worth the scenic drive.
Buena Vista: Less than an hour and a half from Breckenridge, Mount Princeton makes for the perfect day of relaxation. Nestled at the base of the Chalk Cliffs, Mount Princeton in Nathrop boasts numerous geothermal springs that visitors can enjoy in soaking pools, an exercise pool, or natural rock pools in Chalk Creek itself (which we highly recommend). Temperatures range from the mid-70s to 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
Hot Sulphur Springs: Only an hour and a half outside of Breckenridge, Hot Sulphur Springs is an ideal spot to relax sore muscles after a hike in Rocky Mountain National Park or a day skiing at Winter Park. Visitors can soak in 21 different pools of varying temperatures that range from 95 degrees to 112 degrees Fahrenheit. Book a massage for total relaxation.
Glenwood Springs: Just over 2 hours from Breckenridge on I-70, Glenwood Springs offers several places to soak, swim and splash around. Home to one of the hottest springs in the world and the largest pool on the planet, the water at Glenwood Hot Springs Pool cools to an idyllic 90 degrees (from 122 Fahrenheit) before reaching the pool. Great for families, kids can test out the water slides while parents drift around the pool on an inflatable. For those looking for a little more heat and relaxation, head to the splash-free Therapy Pool and soak in the 104 degree waters.
If you’re looking for a more romantic escape, The Yampah Spa is a great option in the Glenwood Springs area for total rest and relaxation. Sub-level caves house natural steam baths utilizing mineral waters naturally high in sulphur, nitrate, zinc and potassium. This world-class day spa offers the highest level of rest and relaxation.
The Iron Mountain Hot Springs, located on the historic Iron Springs Spa, offers a freshwater family pool, whirlpool spa, calming waterfall and 16 smaller mineral hot-springs soaking pools. Situated on the banks of the Colorado River, restore and rejuvenate in the iron-rich thermal waters while taking in the stunning mountain views.
