Spring in Summit County Brings End of the Ski Season

Spring in Summit County has arrived, and although some are ready for warm days and summer activities, others lament the end of the ski season. Closing days are upon us but in true mountain-style, the 2016-17 season will go out with a bang.

Keystone starts their goodbye to the season on April 9th with the annual Slush Cup  – a chance to win prizes and bragging rights while showing off your pond skimming skills (costumes encouraged.) Live music, crowd prizes, giveaways and even a smaller pond for daredevils ages 6 - 13! The party has been extended through April 16th, with fireworks the Saturday before and an Easter Sunday party at Kidtopia headquarters. Official closing day: Sunday, April 16th.

Copper swings into springtime with the annual Sunsation Festival starting April 15th. Celebrate with free live music, pond skimming, some good natured competition and the world’s largest, all-mountain Easter egg hunt. The Red Bull Slopesoakers competition combines a slopestyle rail jam with a good, old-fashioned pond skim complete with prizes, giveaways and costumes. If you survive the pond skim, break out your best retro gear and hit the slopes on Sunday for a great cause, the High Five Shred-a-thon. Lap the American Eagle lift to raise money for the High Fives Foundation, a non-profit inspiring mountain sports athletes who have suffered life-altering injuries. Official closing day: Sunday, April 16th.

Breckenridge celebrates the close of another epic season on April 23rd at the Ski Hill Grill patio on Peak 8. Looking to say goodbye to the season with a challenge? Then enter the Imperial Challenge – a six mile bike ride combined with a 2500’ foot ski or ride (3000’ for the Expert Course). No reason to lose momentum just because the season is ending! Official closing day: Sunday, April 23rd.

As the party winds down elsewhere in Summit County, Arapahoe Basin is just getting started. With no estimated closing date in sight, ABasin celebrates spring with a weekly Shakin’ at the Basin Spring Concert Series (including local favorites White Water Ramble on May 20th and Sweet Lilies on June 4th.) Be sure the break out the sunscreen for Swimwear Day (May 20th) and start practicing for the Spring Rail Jam (May 28th.) Official closing day: TBD.

Be sure to send out the 2016-17 in true mountain style with one of these great
